As consumers have come to expect, the Lexus brand known for performance and luxury does not sacrifice ‘keys to customer loyalty’ when implementing ways to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Enter the newly redesigned four-year old (400h) Lexus 450 RXh, a luxury crossover at a base price of $42,685, that does indeed give customers luxury and fuel economy. Those numbers, according to Edmunds.com are estimated at 28 city and 27 highway for the FWD.
Driving a hybrid is a different experience and one each driver should aspire to if for nothing more than the experience. However, there is much more to be gained when choosing to drive the luxury version hybrid in that everything seems to fit: quietness that is associated with black tie events coupled with a microscopic eye for detail, a smooth tight ride, and all of this offered in a mid-sized hybrid SUV. Here are the stats:
The 2010 Lexus RX 450h comes equipped with a 3.5-L 24 valve dual overhead cam V-6 and electric motor generators (powers systems and driving wheels) offering the driver electric or gas power. A dashboard display shows the status of where the power is derived: engine, battery or engine and battery. When driving slowly as in heavy traffic battery power is sufficient. However, when needed the crossover SUV delivers and with decent fuel economy numbers. The hybrid grants a maximum of 295 horses which is better than the previous generation. The RX 450h comes in one trim level but offers standard features and optional equipment tiers and can be purchased in AWD or FWD.
The 2010 Lexus RH series received several upgrades of which the hybrid version was adorned such as: larger wheels and brakes, a stronger structure and more airbags, and an upgraded navigation system. The interior, of course, takes care of its occupants in style with enough room for comfortable seating yet does not have a third row of seats. The exterior upgrades included an increase in width and a 400 pound weight gain.
The 2010 Lexus RX 450h, in the realm of luxury crossovers, is a gem of a good ride with reasonably good fuel economy that does not impede performance.
