Lexus began manufacturing the full-sized four door LS sedan in 1989. Debuting in 2007, the fourth generation LS460 hit the landscape with an eight speed automatic transmission and a new technological goodie: an automatic parking system.
In 2010 the LS460 will also be offered in a Sport package which will increase the estimated MSRP of around $64,000 another $6,185. The vehicle, however, keeps the same 4.6-L V-8 engine sending out 380 horses.
Options that make the Sport Package attractive are the high performance Brembo six piston fixed front calipers. Brembo, a leader in braking systems for high performance cars like Porsche, Ferrari, AMG Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lamborghini, and the Chevy SS Camaro also outfits Formula 1, NASCAR, and American Le Mans race cars. The Brembo system allows vehicles faster stops and because they do not overheat–more consistent stops.
The Sport Package also includes returned suspension with air springs (air springs allow the driver to select a vehicle height: High, Low, Normal, and Access modes) and 19 inch split 10 spoke forged alloy wheels with summer tires. According to the auto maker the exterior gets a blacked out grille and exterior sport trim, extended front spoiler, and rocker panels. The interior adds paddle shifters and downshift rev matching, heated steering wheel and seats, black with saddle tan accent perforated leather interior trim, matte dark brown ash burl wood interior trim sport, and front seats.
Lexus also offers other options that come as packages. The Luxury Value Edition with Mark Levinson stereo and navigation is another $2,080 and the Comfort Package is $2,000 more which grants climate controlled front seats, power rear sunshade, rear heated seats, headlamp washers, intuitive parking assist, power door closers, and a one-touch power trunk lid.
When in the market for a luxury vehicle with a sub-luxury price yet with enough enhancements to feed that need for class and performance, the Lexus LS460 Sport may be just what the ego ordered.
